My name is JIM MARTYKA and I am a proud multi-hyphenate!
A native of Wisconsin and a graduate of the University of Minnesota, I now live and work mainly in Los Angeles. An award-winning freelance writer, I have worked for over 25 years on a variety of beats for both local and national newspapers, magazines and websites, including The St. Paul Pioneer Press, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal, National Scholastic Press, Airport Revenue News and many more.
Over the past 20 years, I have authored, co-written, ghostwritten or edited several published books in both fiction and nonfiction, including the best-selling books Closing the Gap¸ the autobiography of Green Bay Packer Hall of Famer Willie Davis, and The Eight Characters of Comedy. I also work as a professional editor for several publishing firms, including Triumph Books. This combined experience has led me to teach how to write, pitch and publish books both in seminars and one-on-one consultations.
I have also written original music, published poetry, written and produced short films with my production company Hold For Plane Pictures, and penned a number of plays that have been produced around the world, including a critically acclaimed stage version of the Frank Capra classic It’s a Wonderful Life. I am a proud member of the Dramatists Guild. I often also work as a PR rep for independent theatre companies and stage artists.
